I was standing at a bus stop in Newcastle the other day in front of two extravert African women chattering away in a loud, staccato language I’d never heard before. I reacted to the noisy conversation with irritation, once I’d got on the bus I wandered to the back to find a comfortable seat out of range.

Naturally, they got on the bus and sat in the seats one row in front of me, still chattering away at high speed and high volume. My irritation level rose, and it occurred to me that this might be an opportunity for some real-time EFT to relieve the stress.

Last weekend I’ve been enjoying the delights of a cold, although I must confess I haven’t enjoyed them that much. I made a few desultory attempts to relieve some of the symptoms with EFT but I didn’t get very far. The thumping headache I had on Saturday kept thumping whatever I did, eventually I sought comfort in some asprin and paracetamol. I wasn’t much better on Sunday, but hoped that by Monday the worst would be over and I’d be heading back to feeling fine. No such luck. I felt better but still had the overall feeling of being washed out that I usually associate with illness.

Now that I’ve told everyone that I’m running the Great North Run (GNR), I suppose I actually need to get started with the training. While there’s a lot of physical training, I’m treating it as an opportunity to use all the tricks of my trade to improve my performance and deal with the mental aspects of running a half-marathon. I’m working on the assumption that the first place to run the GNR successfully is in my mind. From that perspective EFT, NLP and TAT will be really useful in training for the mental aspects of the run.

I’ve found just found the EFTZone which is another EFT *blog style website with a wide variety of articles, tips and links. This one caught my attention Try “balancing my energy” a very simple use of the EFT points to relieve stress or just relax.

*If you didn’t know, a ‘blog’ is the generic name for this kind of website, a collection of articles appearing in chronological order

At the moment many of my insights seem to be occurring on public transport, this time it’s on the buses. I was standing at the bus stop in Newcastle waiting for the No. 53, I’d been standing in the cold for quite a while. Eventually my bus came around the corner and I thought “Great a No. 53″. The woman in front of me muttered “Oh no, not another 53!”. I got on and took my seat and watched her as my bus pulled away, she was still muttering away, presumably about the iniquities of the public transport system. I spent a few minutes thinking about this incident, commenting to myself that moaning wasn’t going to make the bus come any quicker, and that she’d upset herself and get in a very sorry state if she carried on like that.

I was standing on the platform of Newcastle station waiting to get on a train. The train doors were closed as the driver had only just got on and was doing whatever drivers do to get ready. An elderly lady approached me and asked if this was the train for Carlisle, I told her it was. She asked why we couldn’t get on (I must look knowledgeable about such matters). I suggested that it was because the driver had only just got on. She grumbled and tut-tutted in my direction as if I’d arranged the closed doors to spoil her day. Although the management of the train had nothing to do with me, I found that I felt rather defensive and didn’t know why.

Ever had too many things to do? A full list of errands, responsibilities and tasks, accompanied by a feeling, or thought, of “I’ve got to do this!”. The other day I went to Costa’s my favourite watering hole in Newcastle to pass the time while my car was being serviced. I ordered a large cappuchino and sat writing out my to-do list for the day. It seemed to grow like Pinocchio’s nose, items just kept being added, and the thought “I’ve got to do this” started rattling around in my mind.

I don’t know how this works for you, but if I get the idea that I have to do something or other, my energy and enthusiasm drop and my resistance level to the task goes up.
