Great North Run

Everything about me and the BUPA Great North Run

A therapist on the runThe photographic roof is finally in. I really did run in this year’s Great North Run. This is the only photo in the set that doesn’t show me running with my head down.

It must have been the moment that two of the Red Arrows flew just overhead and gave a lot of us a hell of a fright!

I’d like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who sponsored me in the run on behalf of St Oswald’s Hospice. If you would like to make a donation based on the anguish etched in my face (cue gypsy violinist) you can do that here.

Just to prove that insanity plows a deep furrow in our family I’ve signed up to do next year’s Edinburgh Marathon on May 31st the week after my 50th birthday. (I can’t wait to see those photos).

The Great North Run is only a month away and I’m nowhere near ready. I’m behind with my training and behind with my sponsorship efforts. I’ve only just updated my Justgiving webpage for people who prefer to donate online.

As I may have mentioned I’m running again on behalf of St Oswald’s Hospice in Newcastle to support their excellent work in palliative care and the care of the dying.

The Great North Run is the world’s largest half marathon about 50,000 runners. I’m not going to be at the front, but I am going to do my best to get to the finish line before sunset.

If you would like to give my suffering meaning or just support a great cause. Please visit the www.justgiving.com/practicalwellbeing and sponsor me.

Thank you.

I’ve signed up again to run the Great North Run on behalf of St Oswald’s Hospice. I hope this is good news for them. If you are a fan of athletics and like to watch the elegant, graceful and swift in keen competition don’t bother looking out for me.

I’ll start making a donations page shortly for those of you who would like to support a good cause and give my suffering meaning.

Andy in the Great North Run Just in case you thought I was making the Great North Run story up. I just received some of the photos that were taken during the race.

Everyone gets an opportunity to look at how good or otherwise they look. This picture is the one where I don’t look as though I belong in intensive care.

Thanks once again to all my sponsors (I’ll be coming around with a hat soon). I’ll let you know what your contributions to St Oswald’s funds are this year as soon as I’ve added everything up.

I’m already looking forward to next year’s race.

P.S. Sorry about the title of this post I just couldn’t resist.

I’ve just finished the Great North Run this afternoon. It is a fantastic event, the largest half-marathon in the world with 50,000 runners. Which is good because it means I’m unlikely to come last.

This year, as last I ran on behalf of St Oswald’s Hospice. I’d like to thank all the people who have sponsored me. If you didn’t sponsor me and would like to make amends you can sponsor me here www.justgiving.com/practicalwellbeing

Just in case you were wondering, I ran it in 2 hours 30 minutes. I’m the kind of runner that makes lots of other people look really good! (Believe it or not that is better than last year’s performance.)

I’ve had the great good luck (!) to get another place in the BUPA Great North Run on behalf of St Oswald’s Hospice. This will be the fifth time I’ve run in the world’s largest half-marathon and I’m looking to redeem last years painful performance by improving my race time and gathering more sponsorship for St Oswald’s Hospice.

If you are looking to give money to a masochist then you need look no further. Please sponsor me, it’s a very worthwhile cause. You can do this quite painlessly via my fundraising webpage. If you have friends who like to give money to masochists on a mission, please let them know, St Oswald’s be happy to accept their help.

Thanks a million.

Hello again

It’s been a while since I last posted, I’ve been kinda busy. My first EFT Level 1 Training in Newcastle took place on Saturday September 30th, the Great North Run the day afterwards.

The EFT course was great, almost full (17 people), I enjoyed myself and from the feedback I’ve had, I’m not the only one.

The next EFT Level 1 Course is on Saturday, Nov 4th at St Margaret’s Church Hall in Scotswood in Newcastle. I’m probably going to be running an EFT Level 1 course in Hexham in mid-November. If you’d like information about either of those courses please drop me a line, the earlier you book the less it costs.

The Great North Run was indeed great, unfortunately my performance wasn’t! In spite of running a good time in a 12 mile training run a few days before the race, I lost it about half way through, and had to jog-walks about a third of the course, so my time was about 2:45. I was even passed by a quadraplegic in a wheelchair twice! His coterie of friends running ahead, were kind enough to shout out “wheelchair coming through”, so I wasn’t mown down.

Oh, well, there’s always next year. I’d like to thank everyone who supported me with their wallets, so far I’ve received about £240 sponsorship with some still to come. It’s going to a good cause.
