Have you had a traumatic experience that you are struggling to put behind you?
Traumatic experiences come in all shapes and sizes:
- Car crashes or other accidents, whether they happen to you or you witnessed them. Even bystanders can be traumatised by something that happens to someone else.
- If you are the victim of a crime. For example a burglary or an assault.
- A medical emergencies or even a shocking diagnosis.
- Sudden bereavements.
- Arguments and confrontations.
Some people get over these events quickly and easily, for others it might not be so easy.
If you are struggling with a trauma you may suffer from flashbacks or nightmares where you relive those experiences with all the unpleasant emotions that went with them.
Perhaps you feel fine until some innocent sight or sound triggers the memory.
Maybe you now feel a sense of anxiety or fear that you didn’t feel before the event.
What if you could neutralise the traumatic memory?
After working with me people are surprised to find that what was a very traumatic becomes just another memory without an emotional charge on it. Then they feel able to move on with their lives. They also find that the process is surprisingly quick, gentle and respectful.
What makes my approach different is that I’m not using traditional counselling methods. If you have had a trauma you probably know that it’s very difficult to talk yourself out of the distress. These kinds of memories need a different approach.
Using Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT we can neutralise traumatic memories quickly and easily. You don’t need to work your way through a box of tissues to feel better. As unlikely as it sounds, once the memory is neutralised it stays that way. This approach works equally well for memories that are 5 days or 50 years old.
Broadly speaking there are two kinds of traumas:
- Simple traumas: Events that are one off and unlikely to be repeated. For example car crashes, accidents and bereavements. These kinds of traumas are straightforward to work with, and can usually be cleared in between one and three sessions.
- Complex traumas: If you have been the victim of a long series of traumas, for example child abuse or workplace bullying then more work is required to undo those traumas.
